Thomas Elmore presented at the New England Antiquities Research Association 55th Annual Spring Conference in North Stonington, CT on May 4, 2019. Mr. Elmore showed the attending NEARA members and their guests his 3D LiDAR scans of sacred Native American stone structures that he scanned in CT and NH earlier this year. The audience was impressed by the new technology and how it is able to capture such detail so quickly. Mr. Elmore showed several different examples of stone cairns, alters, a ledge cave and a turtle ephigy, which is a Native American burial structure. The purpose of the presentation was to show how LiDAR, this new cutting edge technology, can be used to document and save these delicate and ancient structures. He also showed a 3D model of the turtle ephigy made from photographs that can be manually or automatically rotated on the screen to view it from any direction.
